Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Behaviour Support funded?
Under the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Behaviour Support is funded under Improved Relationships. We may still be able to provide a form of Behaviour Support if you are funded under Improved Daily Living dependent on your NDIS plan goals and needs.
You do not have to have NDIS funding to access our Behaviour Support services. There are no Medicare rebates available for behaviour support though. Fee for service quotes can be provided if needed.
How many hours of support/funding do I need for a Behaviour Support plan?
In general, you will need at least 65 hours of funding for Behaviour Support. Some plans will need over 90 hours to provide comprehensive support and training and ensure all reporting to the Commission is completed.
What is a restrictive practice?
A restrictive practice is a practice that is used to limit or control an individual’s behaviour. These practices are always used as a last resort to ensure the safety of the client and others around them. There are specific requirements for assessing the need for a restrictive practice and for reporting such practices to both the Quality and Safeguard Commission and Department of Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships. Your Behaviour Support Practitioner is legally required to follow these guidelines.
How will I access the NDIS?
To become an NDIS participant, you will need to meet the age, residency and disability or early intervention access requirements:
- Have a permanent impairment that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities, or have a developmental delay;
- Be aged less than 65 when you first apply to enter the NDIS;
- Be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent visa or a Protected Special Category visa.
